Nanotechnology exploits the remarkable effects that arise in matter when the dimensions are reduced to billionths of a metre.

 

Exploiting such effects will lead to new applications in different areas of human endeavor. This can be achieved in various ways: self-organization of surface structures, STM and Focused Ion Beam patterning are some of these.
